Quick note: The day after I recorded this, and the day I put it on YouTube, Zen Studios released two more tables for Pinball FX3 - the Carnivals and Legends pack. And they are giving it away for free for one week. So pick it up now if you see the message on time!

Ok, so I'm skipping about twenty years here, going from Pro Pimball: Timeshock! in 1997, to the 2017 release of Pinball FX3, but at this point we're looking at high end pinball simulators anymore. And Pinball FX3 is one of the top. Particularly with what I've learned about it being set up as well to support virutal tables. That being setting a TV down in a custom built physical table to simulate real pinball, complete with a working LED scoreboard. That is amazing.

Pinball FX3 is more of an engine than a game itself. Which is why many of the tables are carried up from FX2 (though I did look at 2 to compare, and see one of the tables that didn't make it into 3). And I wholeheartedly support that style. Honestly with more things did it. You could do more than Pinball like that. You could do entire genres and games like that. Card games, racing games, fighting games.... Ah well.

As for the tables themselves, I have many of them, so I was able to give a good sampling. I'm not sure I like the added exp and leveling up system to the tables themselves, but there's always challenge mode, and you can turn those features off. In the end it seems like that's more of a way to help you get to know the tables better for the challenge mode. Pinball FX3 also enhanced a lot of the online stuff, more integration, more scoreboards, etc.

Yea, I'd recommend this game. Almost wish there were more tables. But then it becomes a balancing act. You have alternatives like Pinball Arcade, which has dozens of tables as well, but it gets expensive for people who want to own all of them. Ultimately, the choice is yours which tables you want or don't want, and which pinball you like or don't like. More realistic, real tables? More fanciful, with effects real tables can't do? We now have the options spread before us. What a great time to be alive. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
