On the 8th, the United Nations announced its intention to reduce its peacekeeping operations (PKO) in nine locations around the world, including Africa and the Middle East, by approximately 14,000 personnel, or about a quarter of its total. The decision is being made to address the funding shortfall caused by the Trump administration's ongoing UN funding cuts. The United States' outstanding payments to PKOs are expected to exceed $2 billion, and the UN is seeking payment from the US.
