Ratchet: Deadlocked (known as Ratchet: Gladiator in Europe and Australia) is a 2005 third-person shooter platformer, developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 as the fourth installment of the Ratchet & Clank series.

Time for one of the often forgotten Ratchet and Clank game on the PS2. Although more of a spin off title I think Ratchet Deadlocked definitely justifies its existence.

Gameplay has been distilled down to focus on the combat and making it as rewarding as possible and it feels more weighty in comparison to previous games. Unfortunately the puzzle elements have been pretty much removed completely from the game, but I feel like this helps maintain the pacing of this more action focused game, especially after repeated playthroughs.
thankfully grind rails are back and now allow for combat on them which is a feature that I wish they kept in games going forward in the series.

Similarly to the rest of the PS2 Ratchet series the soundtrack is fantastic and has a more metal focus to reflect the action going on screen. It is definitely the heaviest OST of the Ratchet series.

I think the story is the most focused of the PS2 Ratchet games as well. With a return to the ultra capitalist themes of the games earlier in the series with the main villain Chairman Vox. But along with that the humor is on point in both cut-scenes and in game dialog of other characters like the commentators or the battle bots.

For this playthrough I will just be playing through the game normally not worrying too much about the skill points as there are a lot of them and I dont want to over extend the walkthrough. There are also descriptions of how to get all the skill points in game to make things easy for you to get them yourself. There are no Gold Platinum or Titanium bolts.

I am playing the game using the PCSX2 emulator as the PS3 port is terrible, and has a lot of issues. I am using all default settings for the game as it tends to run pretty well without changing anything. I am playing the game in 4K and recording in 1440p though.

I hope you enjoy this series marking an end of an era for Ratchet and clank games.
