242Welcome to the latest installment of weekly meat, the Isaac and Meat Boy news segment that doesn't
come out weekly. The last few days have brought some fairly promising news for you Isaac fans out there, so this will certainly be an episode.. That you enjoy. Let's go ahead.. And get started.
The wait for the long anticipated fiend folio mod remains excruciating but the developers do occasionally let us see what's going on behind the scenes. Most recently they've put out a small video showcasing 2 new enemy types, one of which is the onlooker.. Which has a simple but interesting function in that it shoots a laser if you trip the line of sight in front of it.
In addition there's also the Astro Skull, which seem to behave similarly to other diagonally floating enemies we've seen in the past.
As per usual the sprite work is on point and the developers clearly have a knack for imitating the art style of the base game. Hoping we can get our hands on the repentance version of this mod at some point.. In the near future.
If you've seen the last episode in this series you'll know that the Epiphany team has recently unveiled that their next character is going to be Tarnished Keeper. In addition they've just told us that they'll also be reworking the item "Dimensional Key".
It's being completely reworked for Wave 4 of the mod. Instead of being a trinket, it is now an unlockable quest item that acts as the entrance to a brand new guaranteed Void entrance off of the Ascension and Mother paths. It's accessed from the Ascension basement 1 red room and the Mother Key is accessed from the Corpse 2 secret room.
I personally think that just having the characters would've been more than enough content but the fact that so many items are being added in addition just goes to show how dedicated to this fan project the devs really are.
Hoping all of this is compatible with the aforementioned Fiend Folio when that releases as well because I would absolutely love to enjoy the content of these two giant add-ons side by side.
One of Edmunds most prevalent characters Steven just got his own playable mod for the Binding of Isaac. A pretty awesome trailer with it's own original track just dropped. For those who are inevitably wondering if the add-on will eventually include a tainted variant a developer confirmed that it is planned to be included at some point quote:
"Steven will not have a tainted or unlocks on release. This will come later in the form of an expansion, because I do have a lot of ideas I want to fix up, but I'm releasing it now because I really really want everyone to play him."
I can totally understand the excitement here to get your product out there, I'd have personally preferred for the entire mod to be completed before it was made available to the public but.. At the same time it is pretty awesome that we can just straight up play as Steven now.
