The game is the successor to the classic and grand strategy game "Fantasy General", published by SSI in 1996. That game was part of SSI's Five Star General series. It's was structurally similar to Panzer General and was played on a hex-field map using units of different categories like heavy or light infantry, cavalry, archers, flying units or skirmishers and artillery. The game introduced a number of intriguing new ideas like hero units, the usage of items or the research of better units by means of investing the spoils of war into different troop categories. It also had different unit types like mundane, magical or mechanical units which came with different vulnerabilities and advantages. It was (and still is) a great game to be rated in the 80s/100.
In the videos of this prologue we will take a look at what the successor Fantasy General 2 has to offer.
Fantasy General 2 was released by publisher Slitherine Software and developer Owned by Gravity in 2019. It is also a turn-based strategy game that is played on a hex-field map.
In this video, the third of six videos, the little prologue campaign with the barbarian sorceress continues. In the last videos of this short series we will play with a different general. In the end I will give a conclusion and compare it to the original of 1996 and some other newer titles.
