Playing "Inventures" Like a Bunch of Chickens!
WHY AM I CHICKEN-BAWKING?? Well, it's quite simple. I gathered up my friends Matthew Jude, Banzainator, and Leland Steel to play Inventures, a cooperative story-telling board game. We made our own misfit characters (one could travel through sand, one could talk to chickens, one was always hungry?) and dropped them into a dystopian Las Vegas where everyone was being turned into CHICKENS. We had to survive a perilous trek through the desert and go up against a terrible monster to save our friends and family and TAKE BACK THE CITY!
And how did we create that - frankly - ridiculous story? By flipping over Challenge cards to find out what we were up against in the next scene. The Active Player describes the Challenge to the rest of the group, fleshing out the story and the conflict. Then you reveal pairings of Action and Object cards, giving the Active Player options for how to face the Challenge. They secretly choose how they want to respond.
Then all the other players vote on what they think the Active Player chose! Based on how accurate their votes are, you move your pawns on the Storyboard, either getting closer to your triumphant VICTORY or one step closer to DEFEAT. Keep going, creating the story together, guided by the cards and your votes. And ultimately end up with a story where you're aggressively CHICKEN BAWKING at your friends.
