Playing Super Mario All-Stars the Proper Way (Brick Fix Patch)
Super Mario All-Stars was a fantastic collection of 4 amazing games. It took Mario's 8-bit adventures and improved upon them in pretty much every single way, with the exception of one blunder which really impacts the gameplay of Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.
Unlike in the original releases where hitting a brick block as Super Mario will correctly send Mario back down towards the ground, in the All-Stars versions of those two games Mario strangely gets sucked up into the block, resulting in a really awkward period of time where Mario loses all momentum. The original cause of this issue was actually just a case of reversed Y velocity in the code, thus sending Mario in the incorrect direction after breaking the block. Thankfully the rom hacker BMF54123 has fixed this issue, and there is a patch you can use to enjoy the All-Stars versions of SMB and SMB:LL as they're supposed to be!
