"An Orchestra of Minorities" is a novel written by Chigozie Obioma, a Nigerian author, and was published in 2019. The book is Obioma's second novel, following the success of his debut work, "The Fishermen."

Plot Summary:
The novel tells the story of Chinonso, a young poultry farmer from a small village in Nigeria. Chinonso's life takes a dramatic turn when he saves a woman named Ndali from committing suicide by jumping off a bridge. Touched by his act of heroism, Ndali, who comes from a wealthy and educated family, becomes enamored with Chinonso and seeks to help him improve his life.
Chinonso and Ndali's love story faces numerous obstacles due to their differing social backgrounds and the disapproval of Ndali's family. Despite these challenges, Chinonso is determined to prove his worth and make a life with Ndali.
To seek a better life and education, Chinonso sells his property and enrolls in a college in Cyprus. However, once he arrives in Cyprus, he faces a series of misfortunes and cruel treatment, which plunge him into despair. During this time, Chinonso's only companion is his chi, his personal guardian spirit, who acts as a narrator and intermediary between the earthly and spirit realms.
As the novel unfolds, it explores themes of fate, choice, love, sacrifice, and the interplay between the physical and spiritual worlds. The story is deeply rooted in Igbo cosmology and mythology, with the chi representing a central aspect of Igbo belief and spirituality.
The narrative is structured as a chi's plea in the spirit world, making a case for Chinonso's redemption after a terrible incident that occurs in Cyprus. Through this unique narrative perspective, the novel delves into the complexities of human desires and motivations and examines the consequences of actions that ripple through time and space.
Chigozie Obioma's "An Orchestra of Minorities" is praised for its rich storytelling, vivid prose, and exploration of cultural and philosophical themes. The novel received widespread acclaim and was shortlisted for various literary awards, solidifying Obioma's reputation as a talented and important contemporary African writer.
