Hollow City (2014) is the second installment in Ransom Riggs' young adult fantasy series that began with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. The story continues immediately after the events of the first book, with the peculiar children escaping from evil hollowgasts on a stormy sea. They arrive at a deserted beach but soon realize that wights, another dangerous force, are in pursuit. Seeking refuge in a forest, they find a statue linked to The Tales of the Peculiar, which leads them into a time loop. Here, they meet Miss Wren, an ymbryne who can manipulate time and is their only hope to restore Miss Peregrine, trapped in falcon form. As the children team up with Gypsies to reach London, they face ambushes and challenges, including a shocking discovery of Miss Peregrine left behind on the train. Navigating war-torn London, they follow clues to Saint Paul's Cathedral, where they encounter peculiar brothers who guide them to Miss Wren. However, disaster strikes when Miss Peregrine is inadvertently restored as her brother, Caul, a wight, who seizes the opportunity to capture the peculiar children. In a thrilling twist, Emma and Jacob manage to escape, and Jacob discovers his newfound ability to communicate with and control hollowgasts.
