"Odour of Chrysanthemums" is a short story by D.H. Lawrence, first published in 1911. The story is set in a coal-mining community in England and follows the life of Elizabeth Bates, a young wife and mother, as she waits for her husband Walter to return home from work. When Walter fails to return on time, Elizabeth begins to worry and eventually goes out to look for him, accompanied by a miner named Brangwen. As they search for Walter, Elizabeth reflects on her life and her relationship with her husband, as well as the harsh realities of the mining community. When they finally find Walter, they discover that he has been killed in a mining accident. The story is a powerful exploration of grief, loss, and the struggles of working-class life in early 20th century England, and is considered one of Lawrence's finest works of fiction.
