Creon arrives and attempts to manipulate Oedipus into returning to Thebes, but Oedipus sees through his deceit and curses him. Creon captures Ismene, but Theseus intervenes and banishes Creon. Polynices, another son who exiled Oedipus, seeks forgiveness, but Oedipus prophesies his death by Eteocles' hand. After a thunderstorm, a sign of his impending death, Oedipus walks into the storm with Theseus, allowing only him to witness his grave. Oedipus dies in a flash of light, and his daughters mourn him, with Antigone asking to return to Thebes to stop her brothers' war. Sophocles, a revered ancient Greek playwright, wrote over 120 plays, with seven surviving in full.
