"The Acharnians" is a comedic play by the ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes. The play is a political satire that criticizes the policies of the Athenian government during the Peloponnesian War. The main character, Dicaeopolis, is a farmer who is tired of the war and the economic hardships it has caused. He makes a peace treaty with the neighboring city-state of Sparta and begins trading with them, much to the dismay of his fellow Athenians. The play is filled with humor, including witty wordplay, physical comedy, and bawdy jokes.
