Pochi and Nyaa (ポチとニャ) - A Primer in Existential Despair - MCIHAD
We muse speculatively about the state of the website mentioned myopically in the game’s title screen, but sadly it seems like the modern incarnation merely redirects to a wordpress site. Fortunately, archive.org comes through in the cinch, and wouldn’t you know it, the company maintained a bananas-assed site for the game, replete with diarys for the titular characters Pochi and Nya! It’s in Japanese, but from what Keith was able to decipher at least one entry involved Nya returning to Japan from somewhere only to realize he’d quantum leaped his way into the Edo period. See, discoveries like this are what makes youtubing obscure arcade games worth it.
Meanwhile, this cutesy puzzle game about kitties and doggies eeking out adorable noises while banishing winsome statues leads us (inexorably, as always) to muse on the difficulties of life, the plight of the modern working age host body, and the brick-and-mortar money traps that our once-proud educational institutions have relegated themselves to. Bonus: by the time this episode airs, we’ll know if Kyle became homeless or not! Fun! (UPDATE: Shockingly, the answer is no! Thanks in part to Keith’s benediction! The full story is in the sadly patreon-only podcast, but who knows! It’ll probably be made public when we inevitably shit-can the whole thing!)
Here’s the moribund Pochi and Nya diary site:
