Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is a brand new remake of the 1992 SNES game by Natsume. Following Wild Guns Reloaded and The Ninja Warriors Once Again, the original developers have once again returned to one of their classics and completely overhauled every aspect of it. As usual, they've done a fantastic job with all of the changes and improvements they've made. They've added new playable characters (all with unique weapons and special attacks), new stages, new mechanics, and they even seem to have implemented a good scoring system, complete with online leaderboards. I just wish they'd create separate leaderboards for Normal and Hard mode; mixing them together is dumb.

This is a playthrough of Free Mode with one of the new characters, Ikazuchi. She's by far the most popular character at the moment. Her red shot is incredibly strong, so scoring with her is probably easier than it is with the other characters. Her dash lets her safely jump over enemies and objects too, which can be really useful. She's not my favorite character to play, but I've warmed up to her more since I started trying to record a good run.

This playthrough also shows how to control which items you get from each shop. When you activate a shop, the last number of your total coin count determines which item you'll get. To quickly summarize it, from the shops that cost 50 coins, you'll want to trigger them when your last digit is either 3 or 8. This guarantees a shield. For the shops that cost 100 coins, you'll want to activate them when your last digit is either 4 or 9. That guarantees a 1up. You'll want to avoid any other combination, basically. This discovery increases the scoring potential by quite a bit. Thanks to Sumez on the shmups forum for finding this!

This game won't be out in America for at least another month (for PS4 and Switch), but if you don't want to wait, you can get it right now on the Japanese PSN or eshop for around 4100 yen, fully translated into English (and without the censored character portrait, lol). I'm playing on the PS5, by the way.
