POD (1997)
Trailer of Pod released by Ubisoft in 1997. Enhanced version for MMX
Pod is a real-time 3-D racing simulation on the futuristic planet Io, where miners have released a deadly virus that is rapidly destroying all life on the planet. Players race customized superpower-cars for the remaining seat on the last shuttle leaving for safety.
The game features twelve regular tracks and several hidden bonus tracks, four different racing environments, and three levels of difficulty. Players will race through different weather and lighting conditions and on different road surfaces. They can choose from eight standard vehicles or customize their own by changing any of the twenty different technical parameters. Various different views are available, as well as a replay option. Pod incorporates a sophisticated, realistic driving model, but is designed to be very easy to use for the novice player.
Pod allows up to 8 simultaneous players linked through networks or modems. Individual players can also race against Pod's particularly crafty artificial intelligence, which allows the computer to really challenge the player by "learning" and exploiting his/hers style, strengths and weaknesses. (c)
