[PoE 2] LINKS IN POE 2 & POE 1 // Does Path of Exile 2 really have "6 links"?
In this short material, I explained why we have "6 links" in Path Of Exile 1 and "5 links" in Path Of Exile 2. In POE 1 we say things like: "my body armor has 6-linked-sockets" / while in POE 2 we say things like: "My gem *NAME OF THE GEM: has 5 sockets". The major difference is that in Path Of Exile 1 the SOCKETS are engraved onto the weapon/armor pieces; while in Path Of Exile 2 THE SOCKETS ARE ENGRAVED ONTO THE ACTUAL SKILL GEM. // // In POE 2 you will never see 6 empty sockets ( like we see in POE 1 ). This is because the Skill gem serves as the carrier for the sockets and can only have a maximum of only 5 empty sockets that you can swap around. In POE 2 you can never reach 6 empty support gems because 1 of them will be always allocated to a fixed gem! I also want to point out that players who claim that both games allow only 1 active skill gem and 5 support gems are mistaken. For example, in Path of Exile 1, certain items can have six support gems without any active skill gems, on items such as "Death's Oath", "Ngamahu's Flame" etc. // Some players just open the skill panel, they see 6 gems for a full skill setup and conclude fast that they must be called "6-links".
*You can even check the POE2WIKI if you still don't believe me ( the whole "6 link" thing started because of Path Of Exile 1; but this is not a technically correct terminology for POE 2 )!
