UPDATE/CORRECTION: Mark has clarified that the Call To Arms gem does NOT use multiple warcries simultaneously. It only uses one warcry at a time, and all warcries share their cooldown. This makes the gem substantially worse. It was bugged during the initial reveal video. So the information at the start of this video is incorrect, beware if youre looking to use the gem at league start!

Hello team, I'm here just gearing up for the Path of Exile 3.24 Necropolis league launch like always.

A new warcry skill gem has been introduced replacing the Call To Arms keystone mechanic. I do think the gem is quite good and will have a lot of use cases, specifically for Rage Vortex. RV builds didn't make use of all the warcries, and often used the Call To Arms keystone in the past. However I do think the new gem could be useful in automating Intimidating Cry alongside Enduring Cry, and perhaps Rallying Cry.

Basically this would add some quality of life and Endurance Charge generation, and a little bit of damage. But all of this comes at a heavy cost: gem sockets and mana.

Once again, the critical issues with melee progression have not been addressed either with this patch or with this skill gem. Mana is still a huge frustration and the gem socket issues are awful. Lifetap is simply not an acceptable answer when you need auras, movement skills, and a (minimum) 3-link totem setup. How many auras can you even run? And could you ever run a secondary damage skill? Feels bad.

Additionally warcry based builds have huge skill tree passive point pressure. It would be super cool if I could get spell suppression for example, but I simply dont have the skill points. Oh and the clear and single target damage are both (still) garbage compared to meta skills. Why would you play something that is slower AND less damage? Its a lose lose archetype, and excels at nothing.

From what I understand, a couple of the new transfigured skill gems actually have some moderate damage. However I'd love it if some of the OG red skill gems like Sweep, Tectonic Slam, Ground Slam, etc, received some numerical buffs. They are simply not good enough in the current state of the game.

Regardless! I do expect to play either warcry slams or Rage Vortex at league start. We punish ourselves because it makes us feel alive. Very much looking forward to the season, and hopefully some spicy reveals next week!

Love,
Jesse
