Pokémon Masters EX - Sync Nuke James vs. Hall 24 Lyra (Battle Villa S15)
Lyra: 5* 4/5 0/20, Stoic 1, https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/?e=0&grid=AAEDBAYHCgwNEBESFRgaHB0eHyI=&o=740&p=Meganium&s=5
James: 5* 1/5 0/20, Lithe, No grid
Nidoqueen: 4* 1/5 0/20, Stoic 1, Tech Egg (Affinity 3/3 0/20)
Type Skills: James (Poison Tech Lv.4), Nidoqueen (Poison Tech Lv.4)
Lyra is a bit higher on the hall order this season so we can resume the bullying. For this video I wanted to see how well James can tank Lyra and he passed with flying colors.
James has the best chances to Poison in the game. Poison Gas is also AoE which saves valuable turns. AoE Poison has tons of applications, one of them enabling the easy use of Venom Drench.
Venom Drench is an AoE debuffing move that lowers Atk. Sp.Atk and Speed by 1 stage at 2 bars cost but the targets must be poisoned for it to work. It's rather unique. Debuffing offense is generally underwhelming because you are better off buffing your raw defense and any turns spent debuffing are better spent attacking... unless you are stalling.
Because I can Poison all enemies so quickly Venom Drench is a perfectly viable strategy to stall damage until James can deliver his sync nukes (never underestimate the power of a Tech). I chose Tech Nidoqueen as my Venom Drencher because she is faster than Janine, and bringing back La Seño is always a pleasure I imagine.
Just to put into perspective how effective defense stacks + debuffing gets check the crit Swift at 3:23 - 33 damage on Weezing vs. 193 on Nidoqueen. Crits bypass defense buffs, shields and debuffs. That's a difference of 600% in damage! Granted, Nidoqueen is much less tankier but that's just absurd.
Lithe keeps surprising me as a Lucky Skill. James is strange because he doesn't really care about Lucky Skills. He usually pairs with special Poison-types so DC2 isn't that great. He already buffs Defense so Stoic 2 is superfluous. So nothing short of CS2, he appreciates immunity skills.
Lyra covers the everything else James needs. While he is an amazing tank, offense is not his forte. Lyra compliments defensive tanks extremely well with her offensive omnibuffing so they can keep tanking without slowing down the momentum of the battle. Light Screen adds an extra layer of protection against opposing Lyra.
