Pokémon Red - Nuzlocke challenge - part 7 (finale)
0And with that I successfully completed Pokémon Red under Nuzlocke rules. Some thoughts:
- The fact that I was able to beat it without knowing much about the game at all, indicates that the base Nuzlocke rules are not too much of a challenge for this game. There are more than enough replacement pokemon available, and the AI is considerably exploitable.
- There are lots of powerful pokemon that are gifted to you (or bought for cheap) i.e. Gyarados, Kadabra, Eevee, Lapras, Aerodactyl. Added to that are various static encounters such as Snorlax, Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres. These are all among the most powerful pokemon, so the game is perhaps overly generous, in that you can beat the whole game with just these + starter.
- Bulbasaur is probably the better starter.
- I technically violated the rules, in that I encountered Zapdos in the Power Plant, but it was not the first encounter. This could have been fixed by using a repel to walk up to Zapdos, so I'm not too concerned. I lost Zapdos before the Elite 4 anyway.
