Pokémon Shadow Unbound - Items, Hidden Items, Dowsing Machine (Game Maker Studio)
A demonstration of ground items, hidden items, and item-finding devices in my 3D Pokémon fan game!
The important bits are:
- Using the Dowsing Machine accesses a settings menu instead of simply turning it on/off, which also lets you change the "sparkliness" setting and how far away hidden items will show up, since the sparkles actually affect the frame rate quite a bit.
- Hidden items are revealed with a "sparkling" animation (somewhat inspired by the Mega Stones you can find on the overworld of the Gen 6 games)
- Items play the appropriate sound when picked up
- TMs (and HMs) are represented by yellow Poké Balls, as they are in the Gen 6 games; other types of item may also receive differently colored Poké Balls?
- The grammar used when picking up multiples of items is more or less correct - there may be some weird English language special cases that have to be accounted for later
- I've always found it weird that visible ground items are represented by Poké Balls, but you don't get to keep the Poké Ball after picking it up. Should I add a free Poké Ball to your inventory when you pick up visible ground items? I don't actually know what you'd get for TMs, since those are yellow Poké Balls. Maybe I'll invent a new type.
- Spell check tells me that "sparkliness" is not a word, but who cares, it is now.
