I'm going to guess that the major announcements for Pokémon will be backloaded into whatever they plan to tell us on February 27th. Right now, what we're getting so far are the sort of announcements you'd see at least once a month: a new character or version of an existing character and events for Pokémon Masters EX, a Wild Area News event for Pokémon Sword and Shield, a new Pokémon or version of an existing Pokémon for Pokémon Café Remix, and whatever it was that had just been announced regarding Pokémon UNITE.

I'm waiting to see if the list of available Pokémon usable in Galar gets increased any, because now I have TWO teams on hold waiting for more species to come through. It's taking a bit longer than I expected, but I don't blame anyone for it.

Type: Double Battle
Opponent: Sammy (47)
Stadium: Battle Court (AKA Master Dojo)
Music: Hop 2
My Pokémon: Decidueye (Alolan), Meowstic (Male), Moltres (Kantonian), Sandaconda
Opponent's Pokémon: Dragapult, Venusaur, Kyogre, Zacian

I don't really get to use Meowstic very much, let alone keep him around for this long in battle, which was part of why I selected this battle to put up. Admittedly, I did get a bt lucky at some certain points, and any Pokémon can last far into a battle with good use of Protect, Max Guard, Endure, and other such moves, but still, rarely does the poor kitty last very long due to having low defenses (well, a Sp. Defense of 81 isn't THAT bad) and opponents who love to target him, I guess out of fear of whatever weird effects he might bring to the battle--this one is fairly straightforward. It's more so, though, having the presence of Dragapult right there, who is both faster and has STAB super-effective moves. But it looks like Decidueye was the higher priority target for my opponent.

I think the other thing that left me with a lasting impression here, at least from my perspective, is that Sammy chose to backload their Restricted Pokémon, selecting both Kyogre and Zacian and choosing them as the third and fourth Pokémon. Presumably, the idea is that Dragapult and Venusaur would do the heavy lifting, then Kyogre and Zacian would do the cleanup. It doesn't really work quite as well if Dragapult and Gigantamax Venusaur both fail to score any knockouts.

In light of this session, which I felt was rather rough, I have once again made a few changes to some of the Pokémon on this team so as to better adapt to the changing Ranked landscape. I have considered the Meowstic Team the weakest of my Generation VIII teams since I got it started--part of the motivation for Pokémon selection on this team was to pick the least-used types up to that point this generation (Psychic, Fire, Fighting, Ghost) while avoiding the most common types I used (Water, Electric, Fairy, Normal). I think with the right changes in mind, it should be equals with my other teams now.
