Police to Use Facial Recognition at Champions League Final

The heightened security of the most lucrative yearly trophy in football makes sense given the recent attacks on Borussia Dortmund’s team bus and in general, heightened security is rarely a bad thing. The Champions League Final in Cardiff is around the corner, and with only one leg remaining to determine who will be meeting in the summer match, discussion over the new facial recognition tech were in play and seemingly agreed upon to use.
"They can then be matched against 500,000 "custody images" stored by local police forces. South Wales Police confirmed the pilot and said it was a "unique opportunity”. A report on the plan was first posted by tech news site Motherboard. Around 70,000 fans are expected in the stadium and Cardiff is preparing for a further 100,000 people to visit the city on the day."
