As the weekend approached the last thing I figured I'd be doing was playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 but much to my surprise the rental kiosk at my local grocery story had a brand new copy just sitting there begging me to rent it.

After spending an hour or two with each of the game's core modes I feel I'm ready to give you my impressions of this year's offering from the CoD camp.

This video goes in three parts:

First I take a look at 3 or so Team Death Match battles to show you just how Call of Duty this Call of Duty game is.

Second we meander over to the zombies mode and I show you that if you've played zombies before you know what you are going to get here (the added bonus was that for the first time in nearly a decade I actually enjoyed playing the zombies mode this year....although it isn't a substitute for a campaign like some publications would have you believe).

Lastly we dive into the new battle royale mode, Blackout for a couple of rounds. Blackout is the star of the show this year and frankly put is something I'd buy all by itself if the price was right. I approach the two matches differently, the first being a charging straight ahead shooting my way through the map, the second a more methodical "safe" trek across the hostile world of Blackout.

In both matches things go fairly well for me but one of the two methods actually had me on the threshold of victory until I let the force field kill me like a fool.

CoD: BLOPS 4 is a surprisingly fun game, easily one of the best they've made in years even if the lack of a true single player campaign still stings quite a bit.
