This is an issue of bad design that spreads like a plague in computer gaming, and in part it is spawned by console gaming. Merely launching a game can become a test of patience when all those big names are so in love with themselves that they want to shove it in your face all the time.

Only two segments of this game launch process are skippable, and I skipped those (which requires you to keep your hand on the space bar the whole time if you don't want to wait even longer), and it still takes ~24 seconds before you can actually start playing!
The game I took as an example here is an extreme case, but many others are not that less extreme.
It almost feels like paying for watching a movie in the cinema and then sitting through commercials.

Another big offender in this regard: Castle of Illusion, with pretty much the same wait time as Quantum Conundrum.

I didn't try much of the game yet, but the poor design decisions kept coming. Switching the resolution in the options menu will instantly apply the new resolution as soon as you switch to it. ... And in case you doubt the idiocy of that now, I have to point out: No, the resolutions are not in a dropdown list. They are a field with left- and right-arrows. You have to endure every single resolution switch until you found the native one of your monitor. Because, yes, it gets worse: The game doesn't default to native resolution, but 1080p - because, you know, TV and consoles.

I had my doubts even before trying the demo when I read "Square Enix", and as it turns out, my expectations were realistic, not cynical.

UPDATE: LOL, in the first minutes of the demo, I broke the game. Stood in a closing door and then I got locked in because a script malfunctioned.
