The following presidents won without winning the Popular Vote: Benjamin Harrison, Donald Trump, George W. Bush Jr. (Against Al Gore), Rutherford B. Hayes, and John Q. Adams. In the case of John Q Adams, the electoral vote was split so many ways that the House of Representatives had to step in and choose the President per the Constitution. By the way, in this process, you pick your candidate in the PRIMARIES and then you vote for ELECTORS in your state to cast an ELECTORAL VOTE for the person of your choice. You're not directly voting for a candidate in the United States. Also, the bit about "bringing your family to the stadium" is a slick reference to the "no favorite sons" nature of the Electoral College rules as laid down by the Constitution.
