Portal 2 spielt nach den Geschehnissen des ersten Teils. Der Spieler übernimmt erneut die Kontrolle von Chell, die am Ende von Portal von einer Gestalt mit metallischer Stimme, außerhalb des Sichtfeldes des Spielers, aus dem Bild gezogen wird – diese Szene wurde noch vor der offiziellen Ankündigung von Portal 2 nachträglich durch ein Update in das Spiel eingefügt. Chell befindet sich scheinbar in einem Hotelzimmer, als sie von einer Roboterstimme durch einen medizinischen Test geführt wird und sich anschließend ins Bett legt. Als sie erneut erwacht, deutet der Zerfall der Zimmereinrichtung darauf hin, dass eine lange Zeit vergangen sein muss.[...]
