PowerSlave Game Sample - Playstation
PowerSlave (also known as "Exhumed" and "Seireki 1999: Pharaoh no Fukkatsu") is a great FPS developed by Lobotomy Software and published by BMG Interactive and Playmates; it IS NOT related to the Iron Maiden album of the same name (but does share an Egyptian-themed cover in the U.S.). Similar to tiles like Doom and Quake but with an Egyptian setting, PowerSlave deals with the dangerous travels of an elite Special Forces member who travels around Egypt to retrieve the mummified body of King Ramses, whose body was exhumed from its tomb and its body's powers are being misused, creating rabid creatures, monsters, aliens, and other problems.
The game is quite good in the audio/visual department and even presented a few innovations besides its theme. Also released on Saturn and PC, each game featured a variety of technical differences, levels, and secrets between versions, which added to the game's overall intrigue. Additionally, the console ports were a little less linear and allowed you to return to previous levels to find numerous secrets needed for the "good ending" (by using things you find in later levels) as well as unlockable skills and/or modes, adding an additional exploration aspect to the game. The Saturn port was particularly interesting not only because it was another example of the system handling (at the time) complex 3D graphics, but it allowed you to play a hidden mini-game in Duke Nukem 3D if you had a PowerSlave or Quake save (as they were also handled by Lobotomy Software and use the "Slavedriver" engine).
Otherwise, it isn't so different from what you've played before in the FPS genre. It was mildly successful upon its release, but some still consider the game to be unknown and underrated. This is a video showing some of the Playstation game in action. Enjoy.
