Predictions for the 2023-24 CDL Season Opener (that actually makes sense)
15Hello everyone, and welcome back to Daily Call of Duty! The CDL Major I, hosted by the Boston Breach, is set to kick off on the 25th of January. However, the qualifier matches are commencing tomorrow featuring 3 matches on Friday , 4 on Saturday, and 4 on Sunday. Today, our focus will be on predicting the outcomes of the matches from the first set taking place tomorrow.
Let's begin with the basics. The favorites for the Day 1 matchups, from a betting standpoint, are Atlanta FaZe, Seattle Surge, and the New York Subliners. Atlanta FaZe's line is at 1.16 in their matchup against Boston Breach, making them the standout favorites. No need to dive into the reasons behind it; we're all aware of the peer power this FaZe roster has demonstrated since the inception of the CDL. Now, with the addition of Drazah to the iconic trio of Cellium and the tiny terrors, it's shaping up to be a clean 3-0 sweep.
Moving on to the Seattle Surge matchup against the LA Thieves, Seattle is the favorite with their line sitting at 1.65. The Seattle Surge, also known as the ‘Revenge Season’ squad, boasts iLLeY, Huke, Arcitys, and rookie Abuzah. Many pros have spoken highly of this team. On paper, the 2/3rds of the 'X-e-o' have been significant forces in the CDL. Adding Arcitys to that duo makes them a championship-caliber squad. Despite the hit or miss potential with Rookie Abuzah, my belief, based on recent scrimmages, is that they can be a Top 5 team in the league. While LA Thieves, featuring Cammy, Ghosty, Afro, and Joedeceives, should not be underestimated, my prediction leans towards a 3-1 victory in favor of the Seattle Surge.
In the last matchup of the opening day, we're treated to a rematch of the CDL Champs 2023 Winners Round 2 match between OpTic Texas and the New York Subliners. New York clutched in the last few seconds of an intense Game 4 Hardpoint on Hydro and later on Sib ended OpTic’s dreams of a Losers bracket run with a 1v3 clutch.. to ultimately send OpTic Texas home. Despite New York being the favorites on betting sites, there's considerable talk around Sib's impact on the team. On paper, the defending CDL champs should be the favorites, but my belief is that OpTic Texas will emerge victorious. With the additions of Pred and Kenny alongside Dashy and Shotzzy, this team is poised to be a Top 3 contender throughout the CDL 2023-24 Season. With their line sitting at 2, I'm taking my chances and rooting for them in this COD Champs rematch. I predict they'll secure victory after a nail-biting Game 5 Round 11 Clutch.
