There are lots of tools and materials that make it easy to design and prototype electronic devices. However, there has been little exploration of the challenges associated with moving beyond a prototype and creating hundreds or thousands of exact replicas. This video presents the common issues faced and mitigation strategies adopted by people who are manufacturing devices in low volumes. It ends with several opportunities for new tools and processes to support the transition beyond a working prototype to cost effective low-volume manufacturing.
