I am so pleased to release this virtual choir recording of Principa Rerum, an original work for unaccompanied voices. When the Coronavirus Pandemic was underway in the spring of 2020, I thought of how choirs might start to re-emerge from rehearsal and performance restrictions. To that end, I fashioned a modular-style multiple-choir piece that would allow smaller groups of singers to gather, rehearse, and perform...and create a larger ensemble from the four smaller ones. Each choir focuses on one of the elements: Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. The elements are presented in Latin (Caeli, Ignis, Aqua, and Terra).
This virtual choir performance features 40 singers singing to a click/backing track without a conductor. They have provided us with a wonderful rendering of this piece that, in the end, proves that on special and rare occasions, our individual offerings help create a product greater than the sum of its parts.
