Privateer Press: Riot Quest starter unboxed and built!
I'm not a big fan of electronic MOBA or arena style games, but I do enjoy those style games on the tabletop. Rum & Bones, Warhammer Underworlds, LOAD, and others of that ilk. Figured I would give Riot Quest a spin as I generally enjoy Privateer's models.
At first I didn't realize the starter set for Riot Quest is only a single player starter. That was an odd choice. Most games of these sorts tend to have at least a complete experience right out of the box.
Then there's the box. It's big. Way too big. Especially for what's inside. A single blister holding the 5 figures, a deck of cards, a large paper mat, rules, and token sheet.
No actual board? Blah. That was a disappointment.
Rules seem decent, but since each player has a team of at least 5 models, and they have to be unique, and there's only so many models available so far... it just seems like an odd decision to market it that way.
Then again I think Monsterpocalypse is being sold in that form now as well.
I just would have preferred everything I needed to start playing right out of the box.
Models seem nice. I'd say they're less complex in building than some of PP's other character models if that's a concern.
I sound pretty nit picky don't I? I am. I generally like Privateer and would like to see them have more hits than misses.
I feel it's too early for me to pass judgement on the game without having actually gotten enough models to play it yet. Time will tell...
