Profiling SCRATCH : A bad case of Writers Block Alan Wake 2
A deeper look at what the entity known as Scratch actually is, how it was created, and what it really is and how it came to exist.
There is so much to talk about since Alan Wake 2, it's almost overwhelming and difficult to know where to start. I was going to put together a Connected Universe Theory Video, but I think that will have to wait until the Alan Wake 2 DLC episodes are released. I thought it might be fun to make some shorter videos profiling some of the more confusing and/or minor characters in the Remedy Games. I figured I would start with Scratch, and Follow with a Tom Zane video, trying to keep these all around 5-6 minutes, and when they are all watched together they will support each other and hopefully help people to create their own Connected Universe theory. All my videos are just my opinion or interpretation, and I welcome other ideas, this stuff is a lot of fun to talk about. If people like this series, I will keep it going, don't be afraid to dislike either, all feedback is good and just helps me shape this channel.
Alan's writers block is manifested as Mr Scratch.
Scratch (or Mr. Scratch) was an antagonist of the Alan Wake franchise. Created by Thomas Zane, Scratch was the doppelgänger of novelist Alan Wake, made to take Alan's place in the real world while he was trapped in the Dark Place. However, the rumors of Alan being a serial killer who murdered his wife, Alice, caused Scratch to become corrupted due to the power of Cauldron Lake. Scratch was possessed by the Dark Presence and transformed into a psychotic serial killer, becoming the "Herald of Darkness". Scratch's body was destroyed by Alan, but his presence remained with Alan and continued to haunt Alice as a much more animalistic, demonic entity bent on unleashing the Dark Presence while keeping Alan trapped in a loop, unable to escape the Dark Place.
