Project Andromeda: ARCTIC Alpine 11 Plus and NVIDIA 980 Installation
G_f_i is excited to produce its second project video "Project Andromeda." In this video Joe, "Innovator and Eccentric Geek," takes apart the Andromeda R1 to install a new computer processing unit (CPU) heatsync, the Alpine 11 Plus, and a new graphics card, the GTX NVIDIA 980. We are still new to the process and are learning how to improve for all of our viewers using technology to capture what we love on camera and working on different projects.

Thermal Paste Application:
Remove the old thermal paste application prior to application of new thermal paste (don't put new thermal paste over old thermal paste). Joe prefers to use the dot method to apply thermal paste on CPU and even GPU processors; however, the dot method (where you put one dot in the center of the processor) is not the only method. There is, also, the line method (spread a thin line across the processor vertical).

Few points of Clarification:
As mentioned before this is a learning process for us to put together project ideas. So that there is no confusion please read the following:
- Of the Alpine series line from ARCTIC, the Alpine 11 plus is compatible with the Andromeda R1 and not the Alpine 20 plus; Joe started with the 20 plus, but installed the 11 plus (as seen later in the video during the graphics card assembly)
- The 11 Plus fits into a motherboard CPU socket 1150 whereas the 20 plus fits an LG2011+ socket, which is for bigger ATX motherboards.
- Joe is working on the Andromeda R1 - not the Aurora - from Alienware; the Aurora is a desktop model that is much bigger while the Andromeda is workstation.
-The back panel at the end of the video does not fasten into the panel sockets all the way allowing for the panel to rest firmly on the Andromeda; Joe used rubber bands to keep it in place; however, those with a more constructive knack for things might have a better idea and we are certainly opened minded to that.
- The Alpine 11 plus fan protrudes out slightly too much causing issue with fastening the back panel hence why part of the metal was removed.
- Installation of the GTX NVIDIA 980 graphics card in the Andromeda R1 requires removal of the PCI fan due to the width of the card; loosing the PCI fan can decrease airflow (positive pressure) into the Andromeda case so ensure the graphics card heat sync is adjusted for the right speed (RPM), but, also, note that the loss of the PCI express fan, which brings in cool air, will result in the loss of airflow (more negative pressure in a case results in loss of airflow)
