Project MUGEN: I Found Some More Monsters In My Pockets
They're the Pichu brothers, but I'm sure you knew that.
Characters:
Greaty Mancheyrax (Syunsuke)
A lot like the author's previous Munchlax but more of a blend of Peppino and Warner's Great Wario, which I find really fun given the Wario Land vibes Pizza Tower has. It seems they've been working on ironing out the damage values of the supers, which I appreciate. Also they have a Luigi down B that does sensible damage, which I highly respect.
Sprigatito (RacerForOggy)
If I remember correctly, this is the author's very first attempt at a MUGEN character, and given it doesn't make me despise the MvC template, I'd say they did an alright job with it. One thing I'd like to suggest is that there's a way to limit the amount of projectiles a certain move can have on screen at a time. I don't think you can do an infinite with Leaf Attack but it feels like more of an oppressive tool than was intended, and making it so that only 1 or 2 leaves can be onscreen at a time could be an idea. But like I said, I'm quite impressed with this first attempt regardless.
Celebi (DeluxeGamer705)
An update to a char I'm quite fond of. The visuals were slightly updated to make it look more Celeb-esque and there were a few balance tweaks, I appreciate it. The AI doesn't really show off this character that well so I'll see if I can find a good place to control this char in the P1 slot. (Fun fact, the Gallade I used here was edited by the same author, basically a bunch of bug fixes and stuff)
Alolan Vulpix (Tweenies_1998)
Another MvC styled poke that seems alright, except for what seem to be oversights on most of the specials. Both Ice Shards and QCB Dazzling Gleam share the same issue of being spammable to the point of being an easy infinite due to the lack of recovery frames. I wonder if giving the moves as much frames as light punch, while putting in that projectile limiter attribute I mentioned before could remedy that issue. Also I feel like QCF Powder Snow wasn't intended to be a multi-hit move because it does way too much damage if all 4 hits connect. I do appreciate one of the supers being Sub-Zero Slammer though.
Fixed/Awaken Pichu v 1.8.5 (xedarts, Z", Marzavis613)
A fascinating boss-ish character. Sort of a glass cannon much like SSBU Pichu, which is cool. And I love the fact that phase 2 has perpetual Mario Head flying noises.
Flygon (CoffeeFlavoredMilk)
I've been waiting to cover this character. Much like that Spyro and Cynder from a while ago, and Celebi as well, it's a character that both looks goofy and functions very well. I'm worried that doesn't feel like a compliment but it legitimately puts a smile on my face and I'm glad we're getting a renaissance of characters like that.
Pyukumuku (CoffeeFlavoredMilk)
A similar case to Flygon but with a really unique playstyle. For starters, it can't jump, and mainly focuses on projectile setplay, damage over time, and grab setups. Which is really fascinating, but makes sense for Pyukumuku. Also I appreciate Mirror Coat basically being Aegis Reflector.
Decidueye (Kitiko)
I actually had the player sides revered in this match originally because this guy's really fun to play, but I thought it'd be much more interesting to play the disadvantageous matchup instead, also I'm pretty sure the AI knows how to play this character better than I do. Like I said, I'm always a sucker for characters with an intricate combo game.
Pikaman_R (ryun)
An edit of an iconic character that makes them more fleshed out. For those unaware this character is based on what happens when you swap Pikachu and Ganondorf's movesets in Brawl.
To-to- (sakuragawa)
A delightfully odd Xatu that I'm surprised I didn't cover sooner. Probably my favorite Urien sprite edit.
Sweets Piplup (Poyochan)
Basically an edit of YochiTheMaster333's Piplup inspired by Sweets Donald that was made for a character jam. I actually checked out the original Piplup and they seemed pretty solid in case anyone was wondering. Honestly taking the moveset of a cheap Donald edit and putting it on another character makes it far more fascinating.
Piplup's 7th Evolution (Yensi)
A Tizoc edit with an absolutely fantastic name that feels like it was made for high octane Saltybets matches. I love this guy and I'm glad I found the perfect char to go all out with him.
