Project MUGEN: Throwback Throwdown
I'm a heartbreaker... My name... Charles...
Characters Fought:
Hank J. Wimbleton (Camren Springer)
Like you might have guessed, the theme of the second and final part of the finale to this saga is characters from stuff I'm quite familiar with. Starting with somebody from Madness Combat. Although funnily enough I know less about the installment that this character comes from, as the one I played a bunch had a character creator instead of the typical Madness cast. Either way it's seems like a fairly decent character that'd satisfy all your Hank-related needs.
Tricky the Clown (Camren Springer)
Much like Hank, another pretty solid Madness Combat character. I love the VFX every time they get hit. And to be fair, the only reason this match took so long is I'm kinda scrubby with the character I chose. I mean Tricky does have slightly bumped up defenses but I don't know if I would have saved that much time if I set them to the defaults. I only realized that after I finished the video and I got the win regardless so it's not that big of a deal.
Walfas Reimu (Camren Springer)
Reimu Hakurei but in the style of that age-old comic maker thing. Much like Pajama Sam she's in an MvC style. And she's fairly simple, can't really do any crazy combos save for exploding ofuda setups. A very fun novelty Touhou character nonetheless.
DJ Candy (Camren Springer)
Another fun novelty character, 'cause if we're being honest MySims was such a weird and goofy game that a MUGEN iteration could count as a novelty. Funnily enough this character mechanically is just better Kadariro. Mostly because the turntable super isn't just a large hurtbox around the character. Pretty cool, honestly.
Charlie Brown (Camren Springer/Vince Martinez Studios)
I remember reading a comment that this char was one of Camren's best works, and I have to agree. I know this one's an edit by somebody else, but I wanted peak Chuck performance. A fairly solid fighter with a lot of charm. His normals are a bit nutty and was definitely the hardest fighter to defeat in this video. And like Tricky, while writing this description I realized it was actually due to his beefed up stats. Probably so this character could go toe-to-toe in a higher power scale, but with the characters I like to mess around with it's sort of like fighting a boss character. Thankfully life, attack, and defense are the easiest stats to tune to your personal preference, and I might use Charlie with averaged out stats in a future video.
Fancy Pants Man (LamarJenkis)
Not to be confused with the one Camren made, 'cause I did sorta switch it up on you all here. Interestingly enough this was an author I got a request to check out. But I found this FPM even before that recommendation. And uh... I couldn't tell you what's going on with it even if I tried. All I can say is that it uses the infamous EoH temlate.
Characters Used:
Sprite (neo)
One of the few DFO characters that doesn't use the typical DFO control style, which isn't bad but I have trouble controlling it in a 2D space. I downloaded a batch of these characters on the night I made this video, so I'm not really good with them. This one's really fun to push buttons with and has a Zero "hu-ha-ho" thing going on, which I'm in to.
Dr. Pepper (neo)
Yes, all of these characters are named after beverages. I would say named after sodas but there's one called Schweppes. I'm definitely not good with this one since I didn't even lab out any of these characters, it was the definition of a last minute decision but I don't regret making the search for these characters.
D4 Reimu (MAITAKE)
Another fun novelty Reimu. Sorta has the vibes of an April Fools character, but I don't think it was released on April Fools.
Helga (Basara-kun)
Part of the Clayfighter Infinite Clayfare fullgame. Plays like a beefed up version of CF63 1/3, I like it a lot.
Dodo/Doduo (tanukida_taichi)
A very fun character. The Bird Keeper in the back is what bumps it up from good to great if we're being honest.
Fancy Pants Man (Camren Springer)
And here's where I talk about Camren's FPM. I like him a lot. I played the FPM flash game a bunch as a kid, even if it was sorta just one level. And I feels like this does that game justice. I really appreciate the outlines to counteract any possible visibility issues on darker stages.
