Project Nexus Classic | Chapter 1.5 Hard | No Deaths
Enemies:
- Zombies: Grab you when you're close. If your TAC-bar (the set of four rectangles above your head) falls to zero, you die instantly. They also have a very weak melee attack. Melee is of limited utility against them. If you leave them alive for too long, they drop whatever they're holding and start moving and attacking much faster. Kill them as they spawn to prevent this from happening. Also don't let them zombify agents and riot guards, as zombie versions of anything are way more dangerous than their human counterparts. I let zombies kill all of the scientists and agents on Level-1 because I like the kill animation.
- Agents: Extremely weak, die in literally one hit from anything but your fists. Ammo farms.
- Riot Guards: These enemies have huge TAC-bars and the highest health out of any pure human enemy in the game. Wear them down with melee and focus fire on them. Sometimes they'll start using an "aimed shot" (they flash red, and a reticle appears over your character's body); dodge just before the reticle squeezes in, or get close enough to the riot guard so that they can't effectively fire at you. Nexus bolts instantly kill them, but you need to be close for this to work otherwise they'll dodge out of the way. Extremely dangerous, always prioritise them and don't let their TAC bars regenerate if you fail to kill them with a single magazine.
- Aberrations, guys covered in red patches. They have two lives. In the first, they headbutt and kick you, bypassing your TAC-bar and instantly knocking you down. In their second life, they grab you and headbutt you, also bypassing TAC. Use firearms for the first form, melee for the second if they're present in small numbers. They are very threatening in large numbers. Kite them around the room and look for a gun. Until the 4th level they're hostile to agents and riot guards, so let them fight amongst themselves while you stand by. Aberrations spawn in huge numbers and don't 'trickle in' in the same way that agents, riot guards, and sleepwalkers do. They're a huge tax on your ammo, so make sure you're always carrying a full-ammo heavy SMG or rifle in case you encounter them.
- Sleepwalker Patients: Revive up to three times unless you destroy their head. After the third revival, they explode and deal minor damage to everyone around them. They can grab the weapon out of your hand and use it against you, so unarmed sleepwalkers are actually more threatening than armed ones. They appear in large numbers and deal a lot of damage to your TAC-bar. It's recommended to spray and pray into hordes of sleepwalkers to make sure they drop their weapons, which often include rifles and heavy shotguns. If there is a weapon with multiple magazines lying on the ground. make sure to kill sleepwalkers before they can pick it up, because if they do so they'll empty all of the magazines and destroy most of the ammo. Always go for the head; melee not recommended. Sleepwalker patients also use aimed shots similar to the riot guards, so their danger level spikes when they reach critical mass, as they can start spamming them and force you to dodge continually.
- Sleepwalker Experiments: Large sleepwalker patients who can't use weapons but who can punch you and bypass your TAC-bar immediately. They never explode and can revive as many times as they want until the head is destroyed. Rifles and heavy SMGs are the only way of effectively dealing with them. Pistols, shotguns, light SMGs, and melee weapons are either incapable of hitting their heads or deal next to no mutilation damage.
Bosses:
- MAG Agent Gestalt: Big boy with armour. Break his helmet and pump ammo into his head. He has low health relative to other bosses, so a single multi-magazine rifle should be enough to kill him. Dealing with him fast is vital, as the aberrations spawning in from either side of the room will otherwise overwhelm you. He can bodyslam and groundpound in an area, knocking you down and bypassing your TAC-bar. If he goes for you, kite him into agents and push his aggro onto them.
- Phobos 1: Literally just shoot him while he's talking; he leaves the room after taking any amount of damage. Otherwise, he draws the binary sword and starts deflecting all of your bullets back at you. The intended strat is to get a sleepwalker patient to detonate on him but that's extremely difficult and likely to get you killed. His sword swings break your TAC-bar in two hits, and kill you in one. If you can't cheese the fight, just slowly shoot at him over time to wear down the durability of his binary sword. After it breaks, he loses the ability to deflect your bullets. This strat is safe but it takes ages.
- Phobos 2: Bully him by knocking him down with a nexus bolt, then hitting him again every time he stands back up. Super easy boss, just don't let his minions get in the way.
