0What, you thought it was over? Not just yet. Do you recall during the "Interlude" where Yuri finds a number of records and photographs of people who went missing? One of those people is Tsumugi Katashina whose fate remained unknown. Well with the help of a certain strangely familiar ninja, we're going to solve the final remaining case from Hisoka's files.
00:00 - First Thread, "Stranger in the Rain"
Ayane, a ninja of the Mugen Tenshin clan's Hajinmon sect travels to Mikomori Hot Springs at the base of Mt. Hikami, looking for Tsumugi Katashina who had gone missing. Tsumugi is a trouble youth who ran away from an abusive family. Her psychiatrist worried for her and asked Hisoka to try and find her, but she never found her. It is unclear why Ayane is trying to find Tsumugi, but she is determined to follow her trail. At Mikomori Hot Springs, Ayane uses the power of her bracelet which produces an enchanted thread leading to its counterpart, another bracelet Ayane had given to Tsumugi. But she is forced to turn back when she is overwhelmed by supernatural forces.

With her shinobi arts proving useless against the forces of the Netherworld, Ayane seeks another way to combat the forces of the Netherworld. A strong enchantment...a curse... that brings her soul close to death is her only means of slipping past the ghosts. As the enchantment is painfully applied to her, she recalls when she met Tsumugi who had run from her home with a number self-inflicted injuries to tell part of her story. Yet Tsumugi never once blamed her family or sister. Ayane, the circumstances of her own birth influencing her life, felt a kinship towards Tsumugi and gave her a bracelet telling her it will make her stronger. She travels back to Mikomori Hot Springs, this time armed with a Spirit Stone Flashlight. There she travels through the ruined building, the enchantment rendering her temporarily undetectable to the ghosts, and the Spirit Stone Torch proved to be very effective in weakening the ghosts. Along the way, she sees visions of Tsumugi at various locations. Guessing that these are memories off the time she went up the mountain, Ayane climbs Mt. Hikami. Finding scribbled notes from Tsumugi along the trail, she comes upon the Shrine of the Ephemeral. The last note and vision of Tsumugi was just outside the shrine. She must have gone in.

30:47 - Third Thread, "The Shrine of the Ephemeral"
Ayane follows the enchanted thread. As she carefully moves through the shrine, the fact that this shrine was strangely still in good condition and brightly lit as though the rituals were still going on and priests still maintained it was not lost on her. But no one has been living on Mt. Hikami for a long time. This place was trapped in time, and the spirits within it. She catches upto Tsumugi who was heading into a large flooded chamber with a large ornate casket, as though being called by something. Black Water arose from the depths, tainting the crystal clear waters as it dragged Tsumugi into its depths. Tsumugi did not resist. Perhaps this was better for her, she thought. But Ayane disagreed. She dove deep and pulled Tsumugi from the depths. As she prepares to take Tsumugi away, the spirits of the Netherworld arise from the water and surround her. Her enchantment washed away, the spirits could clearly see her.

40:52 - Last Thread, "Wash Away"
Her enchantment washed away, and hordes of spirit closing in, Ayane desperately uses the Spirit Stone Flashlight to hold them at bay and slowly carve a path through them. But there were so many of them. Surely they could not possibly escape. But Ayane was determined not to let Tsumugi be taken and she would fight to the bitter end. A breakthrough is revealed! Ayane and Tsumugi rush through the shrine, avoiding a final powerful spirit they leave the mountain. Safe in the daylight, among the cherry blossoms Ayane and Tsumugi walk peacefully. Ayane tell Tsumugi, that despite everything that's happened Tsumugi's sister does love her. Her family is not yet broken. Tsumugi, understanding what Ayane tells her, promises to become stronger. Ayane walks away. Having saved a life, and possibly gaining some form of peace for herself as well.
