Promenade - Mussorgsky - Interpretation and Variation by Max Qubit
Promenade from Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. My interpretation and variation. Recorded on December 28 and 29, 2021 using the Roland Fantom 8. Mussorgsky's Pictures has sticked with me all my life. Being classical educated by my mother I knew Mussorgsky's 'The Great Gates of Kiev'. I however was not into Pop and Rock. Until that day in class (in 1973, I was 12) when the music teacher explained the link between classical and rock, between Mussorgsky and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. He first played Mussorgsky's version of 'Pictures', then put on ELP ... I was blown away. Suddenly I was propelled into Rock. My friends didn't get my excitement. Mussorgsky? What's that all about? So, from then on I was also into Rock, finally. And became a true ELP fan, bought all their records. Fantastic stuff. Emerson used a Moog. A synth. And I loved that too. Synths. So, when Isao Tomita created his version of 'Pictures' I was enlightened once again ... Now, I can play piano and synths. Not perfect, but I do play. Not so long ago I sat down to somehow get into 'Pictures'. Promenade is the least complex so I managed to get to play the tune in my own way. I went for a variation. https://youtu.be/ameGSc1xHpc ... A good friend suggested that I should try it in a 'Tomita way', so I sat down again and fiddled with my Roland Fantom 8. Recording several layers, mixing it uncut/uneditted with this as end result. My stuff is never perfect. My stuff is about playing. Playing for my own fun and sometimes, when I think the performance is acceptable, sharing it to the public. So, to you listeners, cheers and have fun :)
