This animation shows the motion of the protoplanet candidate HD 169142b orbiting its star within the disk surrounding the star. The star in this image is covered and cannot be seen. The protoplanet is suspected to carve the gap into the disk.

The motion of the protoplanet is shown in the dark square and the background image is a static image of the disk from 2015.
