PS3 seems to have a common failure where it will flash a red light and then shut off, refusing to turn on. I've tracked this issue down to the BGA (ball grid array) package on the chips it uses. The solder balls may detach from the motherboard and then this issue will show up.

Solution in my video covers using a hot air gun at 300-500 degrees to remelt the solder balls on the BGA chips to regain function. This may not work in all cases, but it did in mine. I've seen many other videos covering this topic on youtube. Further viewing of those videos is recommended.
