I've honestly tried considering shooting at people without cause, to see if I could find it tempting. Genuinely, really tried; choosing to ignore all the downsides and only focus on any potential fun or reward in it, I approached it as positively as I could manage. The end result is that I just can't do any of it. I don't know what I don't get about it, but I know I don't get it. I don't deny enjoying the feeling of simply murdering someone who's shot me first, or the thrill of PvP game modes, but the appeal in randomly shooting someone just doesn't exist for me. Even in pursuit of revenge, I'm just as happy, if not more happy, when someone who has attacked me in a game changes course and decides to stop (or even be friendly); reason won, and not me, and that's a better and more permanent victory. And I certainly don't object to mindless or creative in-game destruction: I'll cover Saint Denis in dynamite and throw a fire bottle in after it any day. But all I see when I look at other players is people, people who want to have fun (at least in theory) and I don't feel any need to shoot them. I think if someone offered me a substantial financial incentive to grief in an online game, I would continue to struggle with it too much to be able to try doing it. If that's unusual, that's maybe a little sad.

Go get Red Dead Redemption 2, and if you play Online and oppose filthy griefers and their ilk, join the Pale Blue Dots!
