To set up a 4D Joystick controller with multiple PTZ cameras, you can use either a daisy-chaining serial connection or a network-based IP connection, with serial being common for smaller, dedicated setups and IP offering more flexibility for larger networks. For a serial setup, connect the joystick to the first camera with a serial cable, then daisy-chain the subsequent cameras using extension cables and assign each a unique serial ID in its OSD menu. For an IP setup, connect the cameras and controller to a network switch, assign unique, sequential IP addresses to each camera, and then configure the joystick to recognize and control each device on the network.

Serial Daisy-Chain Setup (RS-232/VISCA)
This method is common for simpler setups and is often more reliable.
Power On: Turn on all your PTZ cameras and the joystick controller.
Initial Connection: Connect the joystick's serial cable to the RS-232 IN port on the first PTZ camera.
Daisy-Chain Cameras: Connect an RS-232 extension cable from the RS-232 OUT port of the first camera to the RS-232 IN port of the second camera, and repeat this for each additional camera.
Assign Serial IDs: On each camera, navigate its On-Screen Display (OSD) menu to assign a unique serial ID (e.g., camera 1, camera 2, camera 3).
Configure Controller: Configure your joystick to communicate with these unique camera IDs.
Network-Based IP Setup
This approach offers greater flexibility and is better suited for larger installations.
1. Connect to Network:
Connect your PTZ cameras and the joystick controller to a network switch using Ethernet cables.
2. Assign IP Addresses:
Assign each PTZ camera a unique, sequential IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2, etc.) on your network.
3. Configure Controller:
On the joystick controller, access the settings and add each camera by its IP address or through an ONVIF protocol scan.
4. Match Control:
Select the cameras on the controller's interface and assign each to a specific joystick or control channel for simultaneous operation.

Key Considerations
Controller Type:
Determine if your joystick is a serial or IP-based controller to ensure compatibility with your camera connection method.
Camera Support:
Ensure your PTZ cameras support the chosen control protocol (Serial VISCA or ONVIF for IP).
Cable Types:
Use the appropriate cables (RS-232 or Ethernet) for your setup.
Unique IDs:
Each camera needs a unique identifier (serial ID or IP address) so the controller knows which camera to command.
