Publishers are absolutely terrified of games being used for "recreational purposes." What the hell are you on about, game publishers? That's what video games are. They are products specifically used for recreational purposes. Oh, sorry. I thought we're seeing this from a consumer perspective. You're seeing video games from a business perspective, as in means to make money.

And that's why the US copyright office struck down a major effort for video game preservation, because publishers hate the notion of gamers playing good old games that are cheaper or even free and not giving them more money. That's all these publishers want. They want money.

Publishers don't want you to have these old games, except for a price. They also don't care about video game preservation. They just want your money. The problem is they're not publishing those games or selling those games anymore. So, how are we going to give you money if you give us no product? The Lollipop Chainsaw port isn't perfect, but at least they tried.
