Atari attempted a new spin on Centipede with Cloud 9 (formerly "Weather War"), a game in which you control a little dude shooting at clouds, trying to prevent getting flooded in from rainwater. It's... uh... certainly not unplayable or anything, but it doesn't have the same satisfying feeling. And it kinda doesn't look great by advancing technology standards in 1983, either. Can kinda get why it was cancelled but I've certainly played worse games that DID get released.
