एक दिन में मेट्रो स्टेशन पर एस्केलेटर (चलती सीढ़ी) के नें चलने पर प्रीति, उसकी सीदियों पर पैदल ऊपर चढ़ती है। इसमें उसे \( \hat{t}_{1} \) समय लगता है। अन्य दिनों में जब एस्केलेटर चल रहा होता है तब वह उस पर खड़ी रहकर \( t_{2} \) समय में ऊपर पहुँच जाती है तो उसके द्वारा चलते हुए एस्केलेटर पर चलकर ऊपर चढने में लिया गया समय होगा-
