Quake E1M5 Speedrun 22:52
This is a speedrun I did of Quake E1M5 on 3/13/1997. I found the .dem file on an old 3.5" floppy disk. This was not my best run, but it's only one I miraculously still have. I eventually figured out how to do the final two rocket jumps with 6% health remaining, which left me with 1% health after dropping down to the exit.
Actual time of run measured in video editor is 21:22, even though the game showed 22.
I did this speedrun as part of a contest John Romero put on when he started Ion Storm back in 1997. My best run was sub 19 seconds. Unfortunately I don't have that one to show. Maybe John has it somewhere. Someone beat me by 1 second and I didn't win.
Little did we know, we were starting speed running. These kinds of runs turned into "Quake Done Quick", which turned into "Games Done Quick", which we all know as GDQ now.
