Quake II: Call of the Machine playthrough Part 1 - Laser Eyes
Ah, Quake II. Like other Id games, when this game got an anniversary edition update into Nightdive's Kex engine, it came with a brand new expansion. This one, Call of the Machine. One I'd yet to play. So I'm looking forward to it! Apparently it blends some Quake 1 mythos into Quake 2, giving the game a reason to be called "Quake 2". We'll see.
So I think I am going to try to do these one video per "chapter". Since this expansion is basically a set of self contained missions by the looks of it. Six of them, and then probably some finale. This actually works for me for Quake II. It's a nice twist on the game, and the engine is certainly capable of handling it. I'm just going down the left side and going to be doing them in order that way, and the first mission I ran up to was Laser Eyes.
New enemies, but a bit too Doom 2 in some of the level design. Repopulating rooms, monster closets, enemies spawning in. Not a fan of that in Quake 2. The new enemies don't seem too bad. There's variants of the railgunners that shoot a large explosive plasma ball instead, but they have fewer HP. That's fine. There's an improved version of the "tank" enemy, with rockets that can curve. Also not bad. And a boss that had Shambler aesthetics to it, bringing that Quake 1 influence in. The levels wrapped around themselves nicely, they looked good, other than one ladder that was hard to see in the shadow it was in. I think I can have fun with this expansion. Even if Nightdive's Quake II isn't that faithful. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
