Quake II / Carmack's Reverse
Welcome to Season 2 of the Ranger Report! In 1997, just over a year after the release of Quake, id Software returned with the much-hyped sequel, Quake II. Originally intended to be the start of a brand-new IP, Quake II took a vastly different approach with a vastly different aesthetic from its predecessor, along with a heavily upgraded game engine that changed the PC gaming landscape. id Software's first game after the departure of John Romero definitely FEELS like a game without John Romero behind the scenes, for better and for worse. But is it still good? Or is John Carmack's vision for producing shooters merely a shadow of what id Software produced before? Well, we have a lot to discuss today kids, so grab that glass of water and sit up straight, because we're going Strogg hunting!
