Basically, I started out with the same route as Pif. With a little better bunny hopping I felt this run would be a walk in the park. After grabbing the silver key and bunny hopping back to the "main" place of the map, I tried getting past the fiends to the silver key door. Instead of me getting to the silver key door like I planned, I was immediately gibbed by a fiend from the left, with 8 or 9 more waiting for me in the hallway. I was a little worried, and immediately had a little bit more respect for Pif's run. After 45 minutes of trying and still no getting past the 30 fiends in one of the smallest hallways in Quake existence, I was a little worried and immediately started cursing at Jaakko for even making me try this map. I pressed on and within the next 30 minutes I finally got past the fiends and did the voreball jump over the golden key door on the what? 3rd try? After that, I just guessed where to go, found out I was going the correct way and ended up at the end with a 1:17, a second quicker than Pif. It looked absolutely horrible, I'm not about to sink so low that I submit a horrible looking demo for only a second improvement over the current record, so I pressed on, again. Another "short" 45 minutes later, another run came about where I got past the fiends, and I even did the voreball jump on the first try! Got past the ogre and the deathknights, had a little trouble going the backway behind the portal, getting stuck for a second or so, and then I shambler boosted to glory!.. Only to get stuck on the exit portal and I exit for a heartbreaking 1:08.01.. after that I was done. Two weeks or so pass as I decide whether or not to sink low enough to become a "muppet" and submit a x.01.. until Jason decided to help.

Jason had also looked at the nesp16 nr in our early days of quaking, looking for maps worthy of becoming first sp record. Rather than trying Pif's route, Jason spent his time trying to find joemazing fiend boosts so that he could the "hard" part of the map. Eventually he got bored and put nesp16 to rest, until now! So last night, I told Jason that I was going to actually try the nesp16, putting my past attempts in the recycle bin. So he says:

dingussjr: i still don't feel up to doing any sp
dingussjr: perhaps i'll work on that trick i told you about
dingussjr: for that map of yours
dingussjr: i'll let you know if it works

I continue for an hour or so, trying to get past the faggot fiends in that oh-so-small hallway, to no avail. I tried asking Jason about what the trick was, but he wouldn't tell me. After 15 or so minutes of badgering, he said, "i don't want to spoil it, but i'll give you a hint: doubl* v*reb*ll j*mp." After more and more badgering, he still wouldn't tell me more specifics what the trick was.. "what vore? voreball jump to where? do i still have to go through that fucking small hallway with the 30 fiends?" He said he'd tell me tomorrow (today!) in more detail at his house. After showing me the stuff and him showing me what had to be done (he actually performed the trick a couple times) he just said, "Be as ballzee as you want, it's all up to you." So the first thing I do after I get home from work ~7 hours later.. and after watching the season finale to the greatest show ever (Prison Break)... I try it. An hour later, after practicing the various voreball jumps and finding an alternate way to getting two voreballs in the tiny room, I decided to give it a "real" shot.. and the practice didn't go to waste. On the first try, I conceived this demo. Yes, I do realize that the beginning sucked and that the vore can spawn in three to four less shots, but it's kinda hard to hit a trigger that I still don't know where the exact spot is. Yes, I also realize that I don't need both or probably either of those healths - but every one before that I ended up with 9-24 health or so, counting on the ogres/knights/shambler hitting me, which happened often. I amazinly didn't get hit by either of the deathknights and after kinda-sorta messing up on the end portal, I actually got some decent decimals as well. So here you have it.

Even though my name is the only one going up for the record, I'm pretty sure this is just another Jason/Adam coop record. :)

I really hope you didn't read all of this. :o
