The trick is you abuse the engine's upward torque moment.
Very useful for having second chance at shooting upwards or delaying your descent but results in some loss of energy on the way down.
I actually did this twice against a yak-15 in a vertical in my first R2Y2 game to delay my descent to have him stall so I can shoot him while still descending rather than zooming past him while he still climbs, and I got him . Proves it can be useful.
The R2Y2 is actually quite stable in this maneuver but if you yaw to the sidea bit it will develop into a spin. If you have a damaged wing, it may also cause the plane to autorotate.
